How we handle your information
Overview
The Angels Foundation ("we", "us", "our") is a community organization in Ottawa, Canada that supports newcomers, refugees, and immigrants. CRA charity registration number: 000923456798 TAFOC. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share personal information when you visit our website, fill in a form, volunteer, donate, or otherwise contact us.
We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Ontario privacy rules. This page describes our actual website practices. It is not a substitute for legal advice.
Information We Collect
We collect information you choose to give us, and limited information created automatically while you use the site:
- Contact form — name, email, phone (optional), subject, and message.
- Volunteer application — name, email, phone, areas of interest, availability, and any message you include.
- Questions (FAQ) — name, email, and the question you submit.
- Reviews / testimonials — name, role or relationship, rating, and your story. Public reviews are saved as drafts until a staff member approves them.
- Cookie preference — your choice of Accept all, Essential only, or Reject all, stored in a first-party cookie.
- Page views & Analytics — a hashed, privacy-first record of page visits (IP and browser signature transformed into a non-reversible cryptographic hash) used on the admin analytics dashboard. We do not use third-party marketing pixels or cross-site tracking, and we do not use this data to identify you personally by name.
- Admin accounts — login email and password hash for staff who manage the site. Failed sign-in attempts (email and IP) are logged for security.
Online donations are processed by our donation platform (currently Zeffy). Payment card details are collected by that provider, not stored on this website.
How We Use It
- To reply to enquiries and volunteer applications, and to review questions and testimonials.
- To send automatic email notifications to our team when a form is submitted, and a short confirmation email to you when you provide an email address.
- To publish approved testimonials and other content you asked us to share.
- To keep the website secure, including rate-limiting admin sign-ins.
- To analyze traffic patterns, page popularity, and engagement trends via our first-party, privacy-preserving admin analytics dashboard.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for paid advertising.
Sharing, Email & Cookies
Staff with access to the admin portal can see form submissions. Automatic notification emails are sent to the address configured in site settings (by default our public contact email). Confirmation emails are sent only to the address you typed on the form.
We may share information if required by law, or with service providers who host this website or send email on our behalf, solely to operate the site.
Essential cookies keep your session and cookie-consent choice. Optional cookies are used only if you choose Accept all. See our Cookie Policy for details.
Your Rights
You may ask to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, or withdraw consent where it applies (for example, asking us not to publish a testimonial). Contact us using the details below. We may need to verify that the request comes from you.
